Communication in an Online Class

While in an online class, sometimes you are going to have to respond to assigned readings or to the posts of fellow students who are taking the course with you. Since you are not in a traditional classroom setting, there can be no live dialogue or discussions around the topics that arise in your course. However, blogs and online forums allow for these discussions to take place via the internet. Many of the courses that you are enrolled in require more than just completing an assignment. They may require you to post responses onto a discussion board or forum to show "class participation." To give you practice in this regard, read the article below and post your response to the article, answering some of the questions posed at the conclusion of the article. Happy posting!

Banning Laptops in Classrooms

This article is about how laptops are causing some college students to be distracted in their classes. Several professors are complaining that students are not paying attention in class because they have their laptops, while students argue that professors need to make their classes more interesting so they don't feel the need to entertain themselves. What side of the debate are you on? Is it the fault of the professors for having boring classes? Do students play a role in taking responsibility for their own learning?
